Independent thinking in Islam is a rare phenomenon or perhaps it is impossible, because all thinking in the World is circumscribed, overseen, regulated, or even constrained by religion. That is why even the most obstinate heretics have always taken shelter under a shadow of Qur'an and the Sunnah. In actual truth Islam is a religious system that intends to improve the spiritual and moral condition of man, and also gives him, the basic direction in his social life here on earth. But is not all-pervading and all embracing as is claimed by the theologians and jurists, and even by most of the laymen. Islam does not prescribe for every thing; it has not provided fixed laws and systems for all human activity on this earth. It does not aim at crippling or suspending the human mind and reducing men to an automation; for in that case he would be absolved of his responsibility and account ability before God and other man and the very purpose of religion would be defeated.
