Fawzia Gilani-Williams was born in Walsall, England on October 2, 1967. Fawzia attended the Joseph Leckie School and later went to Wolverhampton University and the University of Birmingham. Fawzia worked as a teacher from 1993-2001, and has also worked in British and American schools. She later took positions as head teacher/administrator from 2001 - 2004. Fawzia currently works as a reference librarian in Ohio and part time educational consultant. In her spare time she writes. She is married to Robert and has a daughter, Muslimah. Themes and Styles of Writing - Most of my writing is influenced by my personal experiences growing up as a Muslim in a non-Muslim society. The “otherization” and invisibility of Islam left an impact on me. I don’t ever recall reading a fictional tale where a character prayed or recited a verse from Qur’an. My stories cover a number of different themes, which try to promote positive attributes like sharing, caring, honesty, faith, friendship, love and kindness. My hope is that some tiny part of my stories might touch the heart of a young reader and reinforce a striving of goodness within that child.
